I am doing preliminary modeling for a startup that would provide a set of services to make a specific b2b market dramatically more efficient. It involves giving buyers tools to transform a market that is currently very opaque into something much more transparent. Secondarily, it will serve sellers, especially smaller sellers and market newcomers, to help them develop a well deserved reputation for quality products and good service. Some of the services will focus on creating a community where sellers will share information for mutual benefit. Users, both buyers and sellers, will use these services through an intuitive interface, either with a web client or a mobile application. The "back end" for these services will be highly scalable and cost-efficient by leveraging commodity cloud hosting services and powerful open source frameworks and tools.
Still in serious stealth mode. ;-)
Functional programming languages, specifically ones that support the Actor model for concurrency (e.g Scala, Erlang). I am very excited by a couple of PaaS platforms, OpenShift and Cloud Foundry. I am evaluation a number of very interesting IaaS tools such as Eucalyptus, OpenStack and Chef for efficiently deploying, managing and automating a cloud infrastructure. Finally, I am very interested in NoSQL databases (e.g Hadoop, MongoDB, and CouchD) to help solve either Big Data or reliable replication problems.
I have little to base an opinion other than the hosts were helpful and friendly.

Hey, Roy. Welcome to Bay Area Biohacking! Naturalism and empiricism are the paths to knowledge. I plan to focus on what is backed by science or has large easily demonstrable effects. Optimal decision making is a meetup topic I have a hankering to delve into at some point, but want to gauge member reaction before planning it. I hope to see you around.
sounds like a cool venture!
Hi Roy,

See you at our next meetup meeting soon.
Thanks,
Matt
